Assistive Technology with JB Hi-Fi

Assistive technology can be life-changing for people with disabilities. And in times like these, where working with therapists remotely has become the norm, some products are more important than ever.

While the NDIS provides funding for a range of technologies, accessing those products using funding can be challenging. Not just that, payment is often needed upfront – something that can prove stressful for participant’s families.

We’re here to help. We work with companies like JB Hi-Fi to get participants the products they need in the simplest and quickest ways possible. All in an effort to streamline and simplify NDIS funds management.

Why low-cost assistive technology?

Technology can provide greater independence and improve accessibility while increasing quality of life. And we know that off-the-shelf tech often offers the same benefits without the approval hassles associated with assistive technology.

A smartwatch, for example, can provide alerts for incontinence issues, trigger an alarm following a fall, or even track vital signs like heart rate. A tablet or laptop can provide immediate access to remote therapy. And noise-cancelling headphones can prove life-changing for those with sensory disabilities.

That’s why we work with companies like JB Hi-Fi, to get participants everyday tech items in the simplest quickest ways possible. And, as part of our convenient myOneStepPay system, we front the cost and process the claim through the NDIS to take the stress out of the process.

In short: we do the heavy lifting so you don’t have to.

What can I order?

As a plan manager, we help you navigate your funding while providing access to everyday products from companies like JB Hi-Fi with minimum stress.

The most that can be claimed through the NDIS for low-cost assistive technology is currently $1,500. For a tablet or iPad, up to $600 can be claimed, and for a laptop, the maximum is $750.

The types of funded products include:

  • Smartwatches
  • iPads and tablets
  • Laptops
  • Headphones
  • Smart-home products

How does it work?

To be eligible for NDIS funded products, it’s important that the assistive technology is reasonable and necessary and relates to the participant’s disability.

For example, for an iPad to connect remotely with a therapist, the device should assist the therapy being provided. Then, simply send the letter – which can be in email form – to myAutonomy and we’ll do the rest. We’ll order and pay for the product and have it delivered or you can click and collect

Simply pick the technology you need to support your therapy from the JB Hi-Fi website. Email us a screenshot or give us a call and describe the item. We will order the item, claim the funds from the NDIS and pay JB Hi-Fi using myOneStepPay. For this to be seamless, ensure your home address details are up-to-date for delivery.
