Tips to Maximise the Value of Your NDIS Funds

Maximize NDIS Funds

An NDIS plan is there to help you receive the services you need to reach your goals. NDIS funds help you buy support services to make your goals achievable and is based on the types of services you need and the number of hours over the length of the plan.

There is a range of things you can do to ensure you maximise the value of your NDIS funds. In this article, we will cover four tips:

  1. Track Your Spending
  2. Make Your Budget Go Further
  3. Technology is Your Friend
  4. Changing Circumstances

Track Your Spending

It is extremely important to monitor your budget, so you know how you’re tracking. You can access your live budgets via the myAutonomy App, which has an estimate of when your funds will be spent, based on your services to date. You can also increase your services or organise a plan review if your circumstances have changed and you need more funds to meet your goals.

A regular check will ensure you can work with your Support Coordinator or Local Area Coordinator on a new plan well before funds are exhausted. Each month we will also send you a statement of your budget as a reference, which you can also access via the myAutonomy App.

Make Your Budget Go Further

Your NDIS funds can be spent in a range of ways, so you need to make sure you are spending the fund money wisely. You have control over how much you pay for a service, so it’s important to make sure you compare service rates.  The lower the hourly cost, the more hours you can receive from your plan. Mable is a helpful website that can provide access to qualified support workers at lower rates.

Technology is Your Friend

Technology is designed to make our lives easier, so ensure you make the most use of the tools available. The myAutonomy app will allow you to easily check your current funds and see how you’re tracking. Download it via this link.

Changing Circumstances

NDIS plans are a snapshot of your needs at a point in time. A lot of people find their circumstances change over time either because of the impacts of their disability or through a better understanding of their needs and the services they can access. If you think this is you, the NDIS has a helpful guide on what to do if your plan is no longer meeting your needs.

myAutonomy will work with you and the NDIS to ensure your services continue and monitor your spending and discuss your options on a regular basis.

These points will help you increase the value of your NDIS funds. If you have any questions about your fund or you need more advice, you can contact us via [email protected] or on 1300 60 33 89.
